In 2006, Keep Abilene Beautiful became a local affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a non-profit organization with a network of nearly 300 affiliates reaching 19 million Texans annually.
Keep Abilene Beautiful has been a Gold Star Affiliate for the past 14 years. We have also received the Governor’s Community Achievement Award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
We have also received the KTB Award in 2015 and the Youth Award in 2009 and 2016
In 2016, Keep Abilene Beautiful became an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful (KAB), a non-profit organization with a national network of nearly 1,000 affiliates and participating organizations working together to improve communities through litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification. They combine education with hands-on stewardship to address the needs of communities on an intensely local and effective level.
Since joining the Keep America Beautiful affiliate system, Keep Abilene Beautiful has won top honors as an outstanding city affiliate and has grown its reach by creating an extensive affiliate program modeled after KAB’s
Keep Abilene Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation first began working together in 2006 when it received its first Governor’s Community Achievement Award, sharing the common goals of making Texas roadways attractive, safe and encouraging tourism in our area. The 2018 Award came with $295,000 in funds that will be used on 5 major projects a major traffic artery points throughout the city to be unveiled in the fall of 2020.
