Since 2017, KAB along with community and business partners have helped plant more than 200 trees at our Annual Texas Fall Arbor Day event hosted at different locations across Abilene. We take great joy in working with community organizers to plant trees to make their neighborhoods more welcoming – and help them address concerns unique to their site such as flooding, noise pollution and lack of shade. When the right tree is planted in the right location, great things are possible!
This year in conjunction with our 2019 Fall Arbor Day event, we will launch the #2020AbileneTreeChallenge. We want to challenge the Abilene community to plant 2,020 trees by April 2020 on Earth Day. For KAB’s part we want to collaborate with several school campuses and beautify the campus with some great shade trees to last for years to come. Planting trees on a school campus will drastically improve the aesthetic appearance of the grounds making the campus more inviting to students, parents, faculty and the surrounding community; provide shade to cool down hot recreation spaces and create outdoor classroom space that can be used as a teaching tool.
Anyone planting a tree in Abilene between November 2, 2019 and April 22, 2020 should take a “selfie” with their new favorite tree and post it on their FaceBook, Instagram or Twitter page with #2020AbileneTreeChallenge and tag us, @KAB_Abilene. It takes all of us to Keep Abilene Beautiful!
