Numbers Tell The Story…
Programs & Events
Keep Abilene Beautiful works with companies, organizations, government entities and superb volunteers to improve where we work, live, and play. KAB engaged 240 corporate employees through 6 events and 2 activities.
Employee volunteers from Bandag and First Financial Bank teamed up with Keep Abilene Beautiful during our Spring Clean and Fall Sweep as part of their own company ‘day of service’ undertaking large cleanups that included hauling away large furniture and appliances that were dumped.
In celebration of Texas Arbor Day the Lowe’s Corporation collaborated with KAB and provided funding and trees for four public spaces. Trees are currently being planted at Sears, Redbud and Vaughn Camp Parks, playground and tennis courts.
City of Abilene and Texas Department of Transportation also partnered with Keep Abilene Beautiful in providing funding, engineer, landscape architect and construction through the Governor’s Community Achievement Award. In June we held a ribbon cutting to introduce these five monuments that are at major thoroughfares throughout the City. These monuments have special meaning and reflect Abilene’s history and culture. Abilene Regional Airport provided additional support to include irrigation and beautiful landscaping around the monument closest the airport.
Keep Abilene Beautiful also partnered with Big Country Master Gardeners and West Texas Science Center to create over 1,000 seed balls and clean Kirby Lake & Children’s Nature Play Area. The completed seed balls are part of the nature science hiking and walking trails project that KAB will undertake in a larger manner this coming year working alongside the City’s Parks & Recreation Department to bring the master plan for Kirby Lake to fruition.
Strategic Plan
As part of KAB’s Strategic Plan the Board of Directors set up a permanent endowment fund through partnership with Community Foundations of Abilene as an investment for the future. These funds will support recycling efforts, beautification projects, the Kirby Lake Project and will be a reliable source of income in perpetuity. The organization can count on annual distributions for its community works. Individuals, families, organizations and companies can donate toward that endowment knowing those funds are protected and will be utilized in support of the projects and strategic plan.
Commitment & Support
Keep Abilene Beautiful gratefully acknowledges the corporations, nonprofit associations and government agencies whose special grants, sponsorships, and in-kind contributions significantly advanced our mission in 2021. Working in partnership with these companies, organizations, and individuals helps us amplify our voice, share costs, multiply our impact, and achieve lasting results that advance our missions to the benefit of Abilene.
